WP29 Conformal Field Theory (MD4)

This course deals with the Virasoro algebra Vir and its geometric origin, central extensions of Lie groups and Lie algebras, cohomological interpretation of these extensions, (unitary) highest weight representations of Vir, axioms of a CFT (in two dimensions), vertex operator formulation, operator product expansion, minimal models, relation to models in statistical physics, conformal blocks, fusion rules and Verlinde formula, chiral algebras, boundary CFT. The main goal of this module is the knowledge of the origin and of the impact of the infinite dimensional symmetry algebra in conformal field theory in two dimensions.
