WP3 Solid State Theory (TA1)

This module offers an introduction to the main phenomena of solid state theory. Starting with the theory of crystal lattices it deals with the dynamic of electrons in crystal lattices (Bloch electrons) and phonon excitations. The course then discusses Landau?s Fermi liquid theory and based on this thermodynamic, magnetic and electrodynamic properties of metals. Other topis in this course are transport processes, Boltzmann equation, Quantum Hall effect, semiconductors and phase transitions. The main goal of this module is to give an overview over the many phenomena in modern solid state theory from a material-specific point of view
