(24.11.) Stringing operators from characters: the curious case of surface defects in super-Yang-Mills

I will show that the Lax operator of Gaudin-Garnier system (an SL(N) Hitchin system on a genus zero curve with punctures) is an observable in a linear quiver N=2 super-Yang-Mills theory. In this way the bits and pieces of integrability package expected from string theory realizations of gauge theory get quantum field theory interpretation.
