(03.11.) Soft Black Hole Hair

Malcolm Perry (Cambridge)

03.11.2016 at 16:15

The infrared properties of gauge fields are discussed showing how it is possible to find an infinity of charges in both electromagnetism and gravitation
in asymptotically flat spacetimes. These charges are related to an infinite vacuum degeneracy for these theories. These charges can be extended to
black hole horizons and thereby demonstrate that the black hole uniqueness theorems need modification. The implications for the information paradox are discussed and directions for future work outlined
