(27.10.) Super-Planckian Field Variations and Quantum Gravity

Eran Palti (Heidelberg)

There are a number of conjectures about general properties of quantum gravity. I will review two such conjectures which relate to scalar field variations, the Weak Gravity Conjecture and a Swampland Conjecture. The latter conjecture states that for large (super-Planckian) field variations there must exist an infinite tower of states that becomes exponentially light as a function of the field variation. I will present new evidence for this conjecture based on spatially varying field configurations.
