On D-Branes in Gauge Theories and Holography

Frank Ferrari

06.02.2014 at 16:15

The notion of D-branes, in particular of probe D-branes, is defined in any matrix gauge theory, like the pure Yang-Mills model. The construction sheds a new light on holography, including in models which are not constrained by supersymmetry. It also suggests an interesting new non-perturbative approximation scheme in large N gauge theories, and makes links with ideas developed independently in the lattice/Abelian projection community. If time allows, I will also briefly discuss ongoing research projects on possible applications of the formalism (to familiar holographic set-ups, to black holes, to the pure Yang-Mills in four dimensions, ...).
