GUTs in Global Type IIB Orientifolds

I discuss the construction of globally consistent GUT models from
intersecting D7-branes on genuine Calabi-Yau orientifolds.
After some general remarks on the global constraints and the low energy
effective action I present a class of suitable Calabi-Yau orientifolds
which is defined via del Pezzo transitions. In these examples one can
realize explicit SU(5) GUTs with gauge symmetry
breaking via a U(1)_Y flux.
