Six-dimensional heterotic backgrounds with torsion: from supergravity to CFT

We will discuss heterotic local models with NSNS flux that can be realised, in the N=2 case, as non-compact Fu-Tseng-Yau models and, in the N=1 case, as a novel type of non-Kähler conifold space, resolved by a blownup four-cycle. Both these classes of models allow for an abelian gauge fibration. We will in particular show that in a specific double scaling limit that isolates the physics near the resolved singularity a worldsheet and solvable CFT description exists for both these family of models. For one of the N=2 backgrounds, we will also discuss one-loop threshold corrections to the gauge couplings of the unbroken gauge group.
