Short Biography
Boris Altshuler (Columbia University) is one of the leading condensed matter physicists. He is very well known for fundamental contributions to the understanding of the quantum mechanical behavior of electrons in random potentials and confined geometries, including pioneering work on the interplay of interactions and disorder.
Altshuler received his Ph.D. in 1979 from the Leningrad Institute for Nuclear Physics. He stayed there as a research fellow until 1989, when he joined the faculty of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He left MIT in 1996 to take a professorship at Princeton University, and in 2005 joined the faculty of Columbia University. Altshuler obtained several awards and honors. Among them are

the Agilent Physics Prize)
• 1993 Became a fellow of the American Physical Society
• 1993 Edmund Stoner Award of IoP
• 1996 Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences
• 1998 Humboldt Research Award
• 2002 Elected to the National Academy of Sciences
• 2003 Oliver E. Buckley Prize of the American Physical Society
• 2009 Elected to the Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters
• 2011 Elected to the Academy of Romanian Scientists
• 2011 Elected to the Istituto Lombardo Academy of Sciences and Letters
