Vacuum high harmonic generation in the shock regime

A probe pulse is interacting with a strong field background. High harmonics are generated.

09.07.2015

Intense laser radiation propagating through the quantum vacuum suffers from nonlinear dispersive and eventually dissipative effects. Based on a weak field expansion of the Heisenberg-Euler effective Lagrangian vacuum high harmonic generation and probe pulse steepening in intense field backgrounds are investigated.
