Introduction to AdS/CFT

There will be a block course "Introduction to AdS/CFT" at the ASC in the period October 4-13, 2017, given by Dr. Daniel Fernandez (University of Iceland, Reykjavik).

Time: 9.15-12am

Room: A249 (Theresienstr. 37)

Requirements: Bascis in GR and QFT, no pre-knowledge in string theory necessary

Overview:

1. Review of Conformal Field Theory and Supersymmetry
2. Review of String Theory
3. Original Formulation of AdS/CFT
4. Tests of the Duality and modern motivations
5. Mathematical tools and details
6. Generalizations of the Duality
7. Applications to the study of the quark gluon plasma
8. Applications to the study of condensed matter physics

Literature: Gauge/Gravity Duality: Foundations and Applications by Ammon and Erdmenger (Cambridge University Press)

It will be possible for TMP students to obtain 3 ECTS points by writing a small essay at the end of the course. The minimum length is 8 pages, although 10-12 are recommended, and it should be written in LateX article format with 11pt size or equivalent. It is up to the students to choose what particular topic(s) they wish to focus on, but it should include at least a brief explanation of the holographic duality.
