I will focus on type IIB string compactifications and first show how their underlying no-scale structure and its breaking can be understood as arising from higher dimensional symmetries. I will then discuss the phenomenological applications of the no-scale property together with a systematic approach to Kaehler moduli stabilisation which can reveal the existence of new vacua and lead to full moduli fixing for Calabi-Yau manifolds with an arbitrarily large number of moduli.
