(29.06.) Horizons and instabilities in quantum field theory

Alexander Polyakov (Princeton)

29.06.2018 at 11:00

Quantum Field theory (with or without gravity) can lead to formation of horizons, breakdown of adiabaticity and blow up of the vacuum. Presently, these unpleasant phenomena are only partially understood. In this talk I will analyze some examples of the instabilities and will make a number of conjectures. It will be argued (among other things) that the problem of the cosmological constant is tightly related to the above phenomena.
