(25.04.) Exploring N=4 SYM with boundaries and defects

Conformal field theories with boundaries, defects and interfaces are of direct interest for the description of physical systems with the corresponding features. More recently, they have also risen to prominence in the study of black holes: suitable CFTs can define multiple holographic descriptions, leading to the notion of double holography which has become instrumental in studies of the information paradox. The perhaps simplest suitable CFTs in four dimensions are based on the Gaiotto-Witten construction of boundary conditions for N=4 SYM. We will review recent progress in their study in connection with (double) holography and supersymmetric localization, and discuss work in progress on large-charge operators.
