Floppy modes

Floppy modes

Illustration of the concept of floppy modes: A fiber, drawn horizontally, is moved along its axis. The bending undulations are a consequence of the elastic network the fiber is imbedded into. To avoid contributions from stretching of the network, the floppy mode has to keep all lengths unchanged (possible to first order only).
