(31.10.) Anomalous topological symmetries in QFT

Jackson van Dyke (TUM)

31.10.2024 at 16:15

The first half of the talk will review the notions of topological symmetries of a QFT and anomalous/projective (symmetry) TFTs. Then I will explain the connection between these objects and two main questions: 1) the classification of topological orders in various dimensions, and 2) generalizing geometric quantization to produce QFTs in arbitrary dimensions. Throughout, there will be a focus on examples: motivation will come from basic quantum mechanics, and (one) upshot of the results I will discuss concerns Chern-Simons and Rozansky-Witten theory.
