Theory Colloquium: Meeting Dirac’s Challenge: modern approaches to the Correlated Electron Problem
Prof. Andrew Millis is a distinguished theoretical condensed matter physicist. He received his PhD in 1986 at MIT, was a postdoctoral fellow at Bell Labs before he was a Member of Technical Staff at Bell Labs from 1988 until 1996. Afterwards he was professor at the Johns Hopkins University (1996 - 1998) and at Rutgers University (1999 - 2001), before he moved to Columbia University where he is a professor until present. Since 2011 he is also Associate Director for Physical Sciences at the Simons Foundation.
Prof. Millis’ research interests lie in the field of theoretical condensed matter physics, with emphasis on quantum critical phenomena, superconductivity, the physics and material science of novel materials, nonequilibrium phenomena and new computational methods.
In 2013 Andrew Millis became a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science and since 1999 he is Fellow of the American Physical Society.
