Welcome to the Theoretical Quantum Optics Group

We work on the theory of molecular quantum optics and open quantum systems. Current projects focus on the study of coherence and entanglement with molecular systems, and on the microscopic mechanisms that effect the quantum-to-classical transition of their states. Our interests thus range from mathematical aspects of decoherence theory to the the quantitative description of state-of-the-art experiments.

engruppe3_mThe group is funded mainly by the Emmy Noether program of the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft. Additional support comes from the the European Science Foundation and the DFG through EuroQUASAR, and by the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität.

An upcoming article, to appear in New Journal of Physics, describes the theory and the experimental confirmation of a molecular near field interference effect, which should allow one to test the wave nature of molecules with masses of up to one million hydrogen atoms.  [more]
