Teaching

SoSe 2012:

  • Mathematical Statistical Physics
    • Contents: The lecture gives an introduction to statistical physics from a mathematical point of view.
    • Topics: The topics to be discussed are: Short review of probability theory, equilibrium models: ensemble theory (microcanonical, canonical, grand canonical), thermodynamic limit, kinetic theory, BBGKY hierarchy, Boltzmann equation, Boltzmann H theorem, quantum kinetic theory, reduced density operators, equilibrium probability distributions, phase transitions, Gibbs measures, classical mechanics versus statistical mechanics, particular models such as the lasing model and phase transitions.
  • Computational Physics
    • Contents: An introduction to computational methods in classical and quantum mechanics, classical electromagnetism, and statistical physics. Goal of the course is to enable students to write own codes and to understand and use typical programs used in physics. Lectures will be closely integrated with exercises.
  • Computational Physics: C++ Lab Course
    • Contents: This course will closely follow the lecture "Computational Physics", but implement the presented problems in professional level C++.
