Why the
contracts are not ready yet

Dear Dr.
Weiss,
To
introduce myself, I am a Scientific Officer at the European Commission in
Brussels
responsible for Research Training Networks. I understand from
Professor
von Delft that it might be helpful to explain the situation
regarding the
status of the above network contract, which has encountered
delays due to
administrative procedures on our part.
Since the negotiations were
concluded in mid-February we have been in the
process of preparing the
contract and completing the formalities necessary
to make the financial
commitment. On the 14th June 2002, a Commission
decision was made to
finance this network. Unfortunately, we have been
delayed in the contract
preparation stage by a change of internal procedure
and other
administrative delays.
While I cannot offer a legally binding
promise until the actual contract is
signed, I have no reason to believe
that the network will not be funded,
especially since a Commission
decision has been taken. We anticipate that
the contract should be
available in September although we still hope that it
can be sent sooner.
We would therefore ask for you understanding and for any
support that your
administration can offer to Professor von Delft in this
interim
period.
